　　How it operated on the other boys in after life I can not say; 我不好说这对其他孩子以后的生活起了怎样的作用，

　　but the effect on me was decidedly unwholesome—discouraging, indeed, 不过，对我的作用却非常糟糕——实际上是沮丧，
