Good First Impression
良好的第一印象
A young doctor was just setting 1 up his first office. He had just rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with equipment and fittings 2.
一个年轻医生刚刚开设了自己的第一家诊所。他刚刚租下一间漂亮的办公室，并布置好器具陈设。
Then his secretary told him there was a man too see him. The doctor wanted to make a good first impression by having the man think he was successful and very busy. He told his secretary to show the man in.
这时秘书告诉他有人找他。年轻人想给来人一个良好的第一印象，使人认为自己是工作繁忙的成功人士。他让秘书把来人领进来。
At that moment, the doctor picked up the telephone and pretended to be having a conversation with a patient. The man waited silently until the "conversation" was over. Then, the doctor put the telephone down and asked the visitor, "Can I help you?"
这时，他自己拿起话筒，假装在和病人通电话。那个人一声不吭地等他把“电话”打完。然后，医生放下话筒问道：“你要看病吗？”
To which the man replied, "No, I'm just here to connect your telephone."
那个人回答：“不，我是来给你接电话线的。”
1. set up
创建；建立；安排；组建
eg. The two sides agreed to set up a commission 3 to investigate claims.

2. have sb. do sth.
让某人做某事，强调一次性的动作
eg. If you happen to talk to him, have him call me.

3. pretend to do
假装做某事；
Don't pretend to know when you don't.
不要不懂装懂。
eg. Sometimes the boy pretended to be asleep.
有时这个男孩会假装睡着了。
4. have a conversation with sb.
与某人交谈；谈话；会话
eg. The last thing anyone wants is to have a conversation with someone who isn't there.
所有人都不喜欢的事情是与一个心不在焉的人谈话。
eg. My boss had a conversation with me on that matter.
老板就那件事情和我谈话。
