第16单元 三条腿的鸡
A man was driving along a rural 1 road one day when he saw a three legged chicken. He was amusedengough to drive along side it for a while, as he was driving he noticed the chicken was running 30 mph.
有一天，有个人在乡间小路上开着车，看到一直三条腿的鸡。他觉得很好玩，跟在它旁边开了一阵子的车，而且注意到那只鸡奔跑的速度是每小时30英里。
"Pretty fast chicken," he thought,"I wonder just how fast it can run."
“好快的鸡啊，”他心想：“不晓得它到底可以跑多快。”
So he sped up and the chicken did too!They were now moving along the road at 45 mph!
于是他加速前进，结果那只鸡也跟着越跑越快!目前飞速度是每小时45英里!
The man in the car sped up again, to his surprise the chicken was still running ahead of him at 60 mph!
开车那个人再度加速，令他吃惊的是，那只鸡却以时速60英里的速度跑在他前面!!
Suddenly the chicken turned off the road and run down a long driveway leading to a farmhouse 2.
突然间那只鸡从路上转了个弯，跑上一条长长的通往农舍的停车道。
The man followed the chicken to the house and saw a man in the yard and dozens of three legged chickens.
那个人跟着来到农舍前，看到院子里有个人，还有很多只三条腿的鸡。
The man in the car called out to the farmer "How did you get all these three legged chickens?"
开车那个人向农夫大喊道：“那么多三条腿的鸡哪来的啊?”
The farmer replied,"I breed 3 them. You see, me, my wife and my son live here and we all like to eat the chicken legs."
农夫回答:“我养的。我和老婆小孩住在这里，大家都爱吃鸡腿。”
"Since a chicken only have two legs, I started breeding 4 this three legged variety so we could all eat our favorite piece."
“可是一只鸡只有两条腿，我就养起这种三条腿的变种鸡，这样大家都爱吃的鸡腿就不怕不够了。”
"That's amazing!"said the driver."How do they taste?"
“太惊人了!”司机说：“那这种鸡腿味道如何?”
"Don't know, can't catch them."
“还不知道，因为一直抓不到它们。”
