    Rachel gives Chandler a hypnosis tape to help him quit smoking; however, the tape was designed for women--and it works all too well. Phoebe's brother, Frank, announces that he's getting married--to his home economics teacher, who is much older; Phoebe tries to break it up and enlists 1 help from Ross and Joey. Monica gets asked out by a customer at the diner, who turns out to be a millionaire; they go out for pizza... in Italy.

    在剧中，Chandler入睡前就开始放hypnosis tape，在他睡觉状态下，这种磁带通过语言劝说、鼓励，改变他对烟的依赖性，以达到白天不抽烟，最后完全戒掉的效果。可以说是利用催眠术来戒烟，这就是hypnosis tape。其实hypnos是希腊神话中的睡神，进而就有了名词hypnosis，动词hypnotize，形容词hypnotie，还有催眠术hypnotism，催眠疗法hypnotherapy。这个词也出现在广告语中，比如兰蔻(Lancome)这个品牌的化妆品就有一款叫hyonose，很显然这个词是hypnos的变形，是说如果你用了它，就会使你美丽得足以让对方被催眠，也就是说这款化妆品可以让你迷醉别人。

    我们总是抱怨在中国没有良好的语言环境。是的，国内语言环境无法与国外相比，但我们国家改革开放已达到了相当水平，英语在生活中随处可见。只要多多留心，便可处处学英语，而且这样学来的也是最贴近生活、最实用、印象最深的。还说这则化妆品广告上出现的hypnose这个词，当我看到Rachel提hypnosis tape时就有似曾相识的感觉，也就隐约猜出它的含义。这就是随处学英语达到的效果，有抱怨的时间，还是用来多留心，多学些吧。
