Chandler realizes he's put on some weight, so he agrees to let Monica be his personal fitness trainer. The results are great, but Monica is a bit too intense for Chandler's liking 1. Phoebe's dating a guy she really likes, but is perplexed 2 that they haven't had sex yet.

Ross and Julie plan to get a cat together. Rachel has her first real date since finding out about Ross' feelings for her. She spends the whole date obsessing 3 about Ross and Julie, and drinking too much wine. While drunk, she leaves Ross a message saying she's over him.

The next morning, Ross retrieves 4 his messages while at Rachel's apartment. Confronted with the truth at such an inconvenient 5 time, Ross can't deal with it and leaves. Later, they argue, and Ross says it's too late, because he's with Julie now; he leaves again. However, he comes right back and kisses her.

[Scene: Monica and Rachel's apartment. Everyone is sitting at the couches, Chandler enters.]

Chandler: Okay, what is it about me? Do I not look fun enough? Is there something. . . repellent. . . about me?

Rachel: So, how was the party?

Chandler: Well it couldn't have been worse. A woman literally 6 passed through me. Okay, so what is it, am I hideously 7 unattractive?

Phoebe: No, you are not, you are very attractive. You know what, I go through the exact same thing. Every time I put on a little weight, I start questioning everything.

Chandler: Woah, woah, I've put on a little weight?

Phoebe: No, not weight... y'know, more like insulation 8.

Monica: Chandler, I'm unemployed 9 and in dire 10 need of a project. Ya wanna work out? I can remake you.

    讲解put on weight可以表示“增肥、变胖”;摘录部分中,put on a little weight表示“胖了一点点”,是一种礼貌性的语言。 He seemed happy,except that he had gained a lot of weight.(他看上去很高兴,只是体重增加了许多。) 还有两个近义词,一个是keep fit,表示“健身,保持健康”;(go on a)diet表示“节食”。例如:I've lost a little weight recently.(我近来体重减轻了。)

    因此,要避免说“You are a little fat.” She's a little heavy。

fat chance表示little or no chance of success,意思是“没有成功的机会,或很少有成功的机会”,有意思的是,a slim chance和a fat chance都指“机会渺茫”。

Often,those labeled“fat cats”will reap a substantial financial gain from a business,while the business itself,and the people who are employed by it,do not.

The weight of an objeet is direetly proportional to its mass.(物体的重量与质量成正比。)

Participants in sports such as boxing, wrestling, judo, and weight-lifting are classificd according to their body weight, measured in units of mass such as pounds or kilograms.(拳击、摔跤、柔道、举重等体育项目的参加者是按照他/她们的体重来划组的,体重通常以磅或公斤为单位来论。)
