    Carol and Susan are getting married; Ross doesn't want to attend, but when Carol's parent's don't approve of the wedding, Ross convinces her that she should do it anyway, and he gives away the bride. Or rather, one of the brides. Monica caters 1 the wedding, but falls behind and recruits everyone to help.

    Joey's begins appearing in Days of Our Lives as Dr. Drake Ramoray. One of Phoebe's customer's dies on the massage 2 table, and her spirit enter's Phoebe's body so she can attend to unfinished business. Rachel's mother comes to visit, then announces she's thinking about leaving Rachel's father. Ugly Naked Guy plays the Cello 3.

    2-11　同性恋故事梗概Carol是Ross的前妻(ex-wite)，但Carol是个性取向(sexual onientation)不同的人： Carol打算和Susan结婚，这让Ross十分尴尬(embarrassed)，他有心不参加Carol的“婚礼”(lesbian wedding)，但当他获悉Carol的父母拒绝参加她们的婚礼时。Ross为了不让Carol失望，还是忍痛出席了仪式。Monica的任务是负责婚礼的饮食安排，谁让她是厨子(chet)呢。

    MONICA: [entering] All right. Tell me if this is too cute. Lesbian wedding, chicken breasts.

    RACHEL: Oh god. I think I'm gonna be sick.

    MONICA: Why? It's not like I'm putting little nipples on them.

    ROSS: And you had no idea they weren't getting along?

    RACHEL: None.

    JOEY: They didn't fight a lot?

    RACHEL: No! They didn't even talk to each other. God, how was I supposed to know they were having problems?

    讲解第一次见到gay这个词是在一首小诗中：

    Work while you work，play while you play．This is the way，to be cheerful and gay．这里的gay是快乐的意思，后来被告知要be careful with this word，才知道它有homosexual之意。在几十年前(several decades ago)，the word gay meant something like“jolly'’(欢乐的)or“mirthful”(高兴的)。

    但在现代用法中，gay成为了homosexual的同义词(synonym)。此外，gay这个词一般是指“男同性恋”(male homosexual)；女同性恋一般用lesbian这个词。但是gay有时又基本上可泛指所有除异性恋之外的男同性恋、女同性恋和双性恋(bi-sexual)。trans-gender 4则指跨性别的。此外，third-sex是同性恋的隐讳说法。

    如果用英文来解释gay，下面几个关键词应该用得着：sexual orientation 5 (attraction，preference，or inclination)；acts between or among people of the same sex or gender。

    据说是因为人们觉得homosexual一词是个身份标签(identity-label)，所以用gay来取代homosexual。gay还可以与其他词构成短语，如：gay culture (同性恋文化)，gay bar(同性恋吧)，此时，gay主要有“与同性恋人群有关的”之意。

    gay是一个形容词，所以不能说“He is a gay．”正确的讲法应该是“He is gay．”；与此类似的一个词是straight(异性恋)，straight也是形容词，因此，应该说：He is straight．而不应该说：He is a straight．gay一词还可以用作轻蔑语(pejorative)，带有很强的冒犯性(deeply offensive)，例如：That hat is so gay．(那顶帽子真够女人气!)；gay在这个时候带有很大的贬义(dcrogatory)，使用时应十分小心。

    Friends中Ross的“前妻”是一个女同性恋者，lesbian的来源与古希腊著名诗人萨福(Sappho)有关，lesbian的原意是“勒斯波斯”(Lesbos)岛人，因为当时萨福收了很多女弟子，与她们在岛上搞同性恋，因而得名。Dyke 6则是另一个指女同性恋的词。

    与gay，lesbian相对，straight指性取向正常的人。第4季中Ross担心女友Emily和自己前妻的同性恋女伴Susan在伦敦发生故事，大家都反复告诉他“Emily is straight”．(艾米莉是异性恋。)如果听到人家说：I am straight．千万不要觉得莫名其妙，其实I am straight．就是I am NOT a gay．的意思。但是如果人家说：I am straight-acting．则是表示他其实是同性恋，但是他的行为却跟异性恋无异。比方说他也照样结婚生子，这种人可视之为隐性的同性恋，就像Ross的前妻Carol那样。

    Friends中关于“同性恋”的描述很多。例如，Ross的前妻是个lesbian；Chaandler的父亲也是个同性恋，在第7季22集中，剧情交待父子俩多年没见，chaandler也不打算邀请父亲到场参加婚礼。Monica知道此事后拽着Chandler 去了Las Vegas亲自邀请他父亲。由于父亲工作的地方是同性恋场所，Monica 和Chandler都很不自在，Monica甚至分不清为他们服务的服务生是男的还是女的。不过，服务生看出Chandler是straight(异性恋)。

    在美国这个多元化的社会里，同性恋是非常公开的。根据CNN最新的统计数据，同性恋占美国的人口总数已经达到5％，他们甚至有自己特别的旗帜：六色旗，所以他们的影响力实在是不容忽视。

    比较俚语的说法还有如：He is queer．这个表达法也是表示“他是同性恋”的意思，只不过相对而言它们没有轻视的味道在里面，算是比较中性的说法。He is a faggot．虽然是指男同性恋的意思，但是这是非常轻视侮蔑的讲法，多半用在骂人和跟人吵架的时候。因此请不要随便对朋友说：You faggot．不然到时非遭人家一顿毒打不可!
