Then, remembering how his father had often told him that a kind deed is never lost, he swam to Alidoro and, catching 2 hold of his tail, dragged him to the shore.
可他记起他爸爸经常跟他说，做好事永远不吃亏，他游到阿利多罗身边，抓住了它的尾巴，把它拽上了海岸。
The poor Dog was so weak he could not stand.
这条可怜的狗太虚弱，以至于它站都站不起来了。
He had swallowed so much salt water that he was swollen 3 like a balloon.
它喝了那么多海水，胀得像个气球。
However, Pinocchio, not wishing to trust him too much, threw himself once again into the sea.
可是，木偶不太相信它，于是重新跳到海里。
As he swam away, he called out: "Good-by, Alidoro, good luck and remember me to the family!"
随着他的游远，他叫道：“再见，阿利多罗，祝你好运，代我向你一家问好。”
"Good-by, little Pinocchio," answered the Dog.
“再见，小皮诺乔，”狗回答说。
"A thousand thanks for having saved me from death. You did me a good turn, and, in this world, what is given is always returned. If the chance comes, I shall be there."
“万分感谢你救了我的命。你帮了我一个天大的忙。在这个世界上善有善报，有机会我会报答你的。”
Pinocchio went on swimming close to shore.
皮诺乔继续朝着岸边游。
At last he thought he had reached a safe place.
最后他觉得已经到了安全的地方。
Glancing up and down the beach, he saw the opening of a cave out of which rose a spiral 4 of smoke.
他朝岸上上下打量，看见有个山洞，山洞里冒出盘旋的烟雾。
"In that cave," he said to himself, "there must be a fire. So much the better. I'll dry my clothes and warm myself, and then--well--"
“这山洞里一定有火，”他自言自语到。“那多好啊！我可以烤干衣服，烤火取暖。然后……”
His mind made up, Pinocchio swam to the rocks, but as he started to climb, he felt something under him lifting him up higher and higher.
他拿定了主意，就向礁石游过去。可他正要开始爬，忽然觉得水底下有样东西把他越举越高。
He tried to escape, but he was too late.
他试着逃走，可已经来不及了。
