  cook up
  1. 解词释义
  Cook up的本意为“烹调,烹饪”。例如: Hot food is available, though the prisoners have to cook it up themselves. (可以吃到热饭热菜,不过犯人们必须自己煮。)在此,引申为为“伪造,编造”之意,相当于“make something up”。 此外,它还可以表示“策划,谋划”的意思。例如:He must have cooked up his scheme on the spur 1 of the moment.(他肯定是一时冲动策划了这个阴谋。)

  3. pair off:使成对(常指成为恋人),使成双
  e.g. I knew she wouldn't be able to resist pairing me off with someone.

  5. give up:放弃

  e.g. They could never see eye to eye, and made quarrels constantly.
