Rachel,

Phoebe: Um, um, Rachel can we talk for a sec?

Rachel: Well, sure...just a sec, though, 'cause Paolo's on his way over.

Phoebe: Oh! (sits down) Ok, um, ok, um,

Rachel: Oh, Pheebs, Pheebs...

Phoebe: Ok, um, (clears throat) we haven't known 1 each other for that long a time, and, um, there are three things that you should know about me. One, my friends are the most important thing in my life, two, I never lie, and three, I make the best oatmeal raisin 2 cookies in the world. (Phoebe opens a tin and offers Rachel a cookie)

Um,um.Rachel can we talk for a sec?(唔,唔,我们能聊一会儿吗?)Rachel答道:Well,sure...just a sec,though,’cause Paolo on his way over.

I'll be with you in just a sec. I’m on the phone.(再等一小会儿我就来。

It only takes a minute to make a salad.(做色拉一会儿就好。)还有:Will vou wait for me?I shan't be a minute!(等等我行吗?

Just a minute!Let me put your tie straight!(等一下,我帮你正正领带。)除此之外,in a minute的意思是“立刻;马上”,相当于very soon。 Our guests will be here in a minute!(我们的客人马上就到!)

Well,you know,er,I want my bill paid(好吧,你是知道的,呃,我要你把我的账付清了。)

President Jackson,no,oh,it's on the tip of my tongue——President Jefferson,

that's it.(Jackson总统,哦,不对,我知道的,就在嘴边——Jefferson总统,这下对了。)

或Your room number is,just a moment,oh yes,it's 112.(你的房间号码是,等一下,哦对了,是112。)

He is sort of,erm,depressed.(他有点,呃,郁郁不乐。)

The situation is,how shall I put it,taking a good turn?(目前的形势,我该怎么说呢,正在好转?)

Well,I'm not sure.I'll have to think it over.
