There was an Olympic swimming champion on the Titanic 1. He was very confident he could survive. He asked the captain, "How far away is the nearest land?" The captain replied,"About one mile." The man got excited and asked, "In which direction?" The captain answered, "Down!"
Notes:
1. There was an Olympic swimming champion on the Titanic.
一个奥运游泳冠军在泰坦尼克号上。
冠军是champion,亚军是runner-up,季军也就是第三名是 the third；金、银、铜牌则分别是 gold medal, silver medal，bronze medal。
2. He was very confident he could survive.
他非常确信他能生还。
要表达对某事有把握，可以用“be confident of sth.”如：I am confident of what I am doing.我对我正在做的事有信心。 或是加that从句(that可以省略），如：I'm confident that you will succeed.我相信你会成功。
3. He asked the captain, "How far away is the nearest land?"
他问船长：“最近的陆地有多远?”
How far away is...?…有多远？
4. The captain replied,"About one mile."
船长回答：“大约一英里。”
一英里约等于1.6公里，对于奥运冠军来说是小意思， 一只脚游也能到。
5. The man got excited and asked, "In wbich direction?"
