根据习惯，一场戏的开幕和落幕都要响铃，所以我们说ring the curtain down和ring the curtain up，由“闭幕”而想到结束。因此，这个习语的意思就是“结束”“落幕”。其英文释义为：to bring something to an end; to declare something to be at an end。
