The official emblem for the Game of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008 was presented to the world in Beijing August 3, 2003 at a ceremony held by the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG). The emblem, entitled "Dancing Beijing", resembles a red Chinese seal enclosing a lively dancing figure. It combines elements of traditional Chinese culture with the true Olympic spirit and values. Drawn 2 in graceful 3 traditional Chinese calligraphy 4, "Dancing Beijing" celebrates the spirit of sport, of every Olympian, and of China.

In a video messsage, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, congratulated the efforts of BOCOG and their continued commitment to the promotion 5 of Olympism and sports in the country. "Your new emblem immediately conveys the awesome 6 beauty and power of China which are embodied 7 in your heritage and your people," Rogge said. "In this emblem, I saw the promise and potential of a New Beijing and a Great Olympics. This is a milestone 8 in the history of our Olympic quest."

The new emblem was unveiled in the presence of 2008 VIPs and to an audience of 400 million TV viewers at a live gala show that the BOCOG staged in the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing's greatest tourist attractions.

The seal presented symbolizes 9 Beijing's "seal of promise" and commitment to hosting the best-ever great Olympics. It is one of an identical pair carved out of a whole piece of precious jade 10 from Northwest China's Xinjiang. The other one is to be kept in a planned Olmpic Museum that Beijing will build after the 2008 Olympic Games.
