Before Ting Fang 1 or the other children had time to ask her what she meant, 方廷或其他孩子还没来得及问小女孩什么意思
the little girl had rushed off down the Big Horse Road. 小女孩就朝着着大马道飞奔而去。
The children sat down, wondering how poor Ting Fang could ever get his sandals back. 孩子们坐下来，想想怎么帮助可怜的方廷把草鞋给找回来。
In a few moments they saw the little girl coming back, and with her was a tall young man. 过了一会儿，他们看见小女孩回来了，带回一位高大的年轻人。

Then Ting Fang led the way to the Road Between Ponds. When they came to the narrow street, 然后方廷领着他来到两个池塘间的那条路，当大伙儿来到这条小街，

Ting Fang pointed 2 to the spot. 方廷指了指。
There was still the mark of the rope on the muddy road like the mark of a water snake. 泥泞的小路上仍然有绳子的痕迹，就像一条水蛇。
And then before the children could guess what was happening, the young man had dived into the pond. 孩子们还没来得及猜到发生什么，年轻人就跳进了池塘。
