1、The supply of oil can be shut off unexpectedly at any time, and in any case, the oil wells will all run dry in thirty years or so at the present rate of use.
【分析】
并列句。and连接两个并列的分句。第一个分句为简单的被动句，翻译时状语unexpectedly at any time前置。第二个分句中in any case为状语，主干为 the oil wells will all run dry，in thirty years or so 为时间状语，介词结构at the present rate of use也作状语，翻译时后两个状语均前置，译于主句前。
【点拨】
1、shut off“关掉，切断；使隔绝”。2、in any case “无论如何，不管怎样”。
【译文】
石油供应可能随时会被切断；不管怎样，以目前这种消费速度，只需三十年左右，所有的油井都会枯竭。

【分析】
并列多重复合句。and和but连接三个并列的分句。前两个分句关系密切，翻译时可合为一句，与最后一句用分号隔开。原句中第一个分句为被动句，可译为汉语主动语态的无主句，第二个分句顺译。第三个分句中包含that引导的定语从句修饰限制situation，定语 从句中又包含一个省略引导词的小定语从句we have had in times past，修饰 that sense of cheap and plentiful energy；翻译该句时，可按照汉语的表达习惯调整原句的语序，把situation用作主语，相应的谓语应使用“…出现”，situation后面的定语从句译为其前置定语，其中的小定语从句同样前置译。

result in“引起，导致”。
【译文】
必须找到新的能源，这需要时间；而过去我们感觉到的那种能源价廉而充足的情况将不大可能再出现了。
