 　　How Tom Went to the Fair 1 汤姆集市行

　　Tom could 2 hardly 3 wait for the fair. He had 4 thought 5 about for weeks.  汤姆迫不及待地想要去集市。他已经想了几周了。
　　On Friday, a big airplane 6 was 7 coming to the fair, and Tom was going 9 to see it. 在星期五，一架大飞机要来集市，汤姆要去看它。
　　Everyone in the farmhouse 11 got 12 up early on Friday morning. 星期五早上，农舍里的每个人都起得很早。
　　Mothers and fathers and the children did 14 their work as 8 fast as they could. 母亲、父亲和孩子们都尽快完成了他们的工作。
　　Before long, all of them were ready do the ride to town. 不久，所有的人都准备好乘车进城了。

　　Tom tried to hurry, but the cows did not want to hurry.  汤姆想快点儿，但牛不着急。
　　At last he got them out of the cornfield and into the pasture 22. Then he mended 23 the fence. 最后，他把它们从玉米地里带到了牧场。然后他修补了栅栏。
　　Poor Tom! How he wanted to see that airplane! 可怜的汤姆！他多么想去看那飞机啊！
　　"I can never walk to town in time to see the airplane now," he thought. 他想：“我再也不能及时赶到城里看飞机了，
　　"It took 24 me too long to mend the fence." 我修补栅栏的时间太长了。”
　　Just then Tom heard a strange 25 noise in the sky. Nearer and nearer it came 27.  就在这时，汤姆听到了天上传来的奇怪声音。它渐渐近了。
　　Tom looked up. What was that high above the tree? 汤姆抬起头。那棵树的上面是什么？
　　It was much bigger than any bird that he had ever 10 seen 28. 它比他见过的任何一只鸟都要大得多。
　　"Oh! An airplane! An airplane!" Tom cried. 汤姆大叫道：“噢！是飞机！是飞机！
　　"It is coming down right in our pasture!"  它要降落到我们的牧场上了。"
　　Down, down came the big airplane. 大飞机落了下来。
　　It ran 26 across 29 the pasture and stopped near the fence. A man got out.  它穿过牧场，停在了栅栏附近。一个男人走了出来。
　　"Hello!" he said. "My plane is out of gasoline 30. Does your father have any?" 他说：“你好，我的飞机没油了。你父亲有汽油吗？”
　　"Oh, yes," said Tom. "We have a bid 31 can full of gasoline in our garage 32. I'll help you get some." 汤姆说：“有。我们的车库里有一罐汽油。我帮你拿些来。”
　　They got the gasoline, and Tom helped the man put it into the airplane. 他们拿了汽油，汤姆帮那个人给飞机加了油。
　　They pulled 33 the airplane back from the fence, so that it could get a good start. Then the man got in. 他们把飞机从栅栏处拉回来，以便更好地启动。然后男人上了飞机。
　　"You have helped me very much." He said to Tom, 他对汤姆说：“你帮了我很大的忙。
　　"Now I can get to the Fair. I am going to fly at the Fair grounds 35 today. 现在我要去集市了。今天我要在集市上飞行。
　　Would 36 you like to come with me?" 你愿意和我一起去吗？”
　　"Oh!" cried Tom, "I should like it more than anything." 汤姆叫道：“噢！那再好不过了。”
　　"Get in, then." Said the man. 男人说：“那么上来吧。”
　　Tom climbed into the airplane, and they went rolling 37 across the pasture. 汤姆爬上飞机，他们在牧场上滑行。
　　Before Tom knew it, they were off 38 the ground 34.  在汤姆知道之前，他们已经离开了地面。
　　Up, up they went. Tom looked down. The farmhouse, the barn 39 and the fields 40 looked very small. 他们越飞越高。汤姆向下看时，农舍、谷仓和田野看上去都很小。
　　The horses and cows lookd like tiny 41 toys. Soon Tom could not see them at all.  马和奶牛看起来像小玩具。不久汤姆就再也看不见它们了。
　　The fields were just spots 42 of yellow, green , and brown. 田野里只有黄色、绿色和棕色的斑点了。
　　Then the airplane stopped climbing, and they began to go like the wind.  然后飞机停止了爬升，他们开始像风一样地飞行。
　　It was not a very long ride. All it once Tom saw 43 that they were above the Fair Grounds. 旅程并不长。突然之间，汤姆就发现他们到集市上方了。
　　All the people at the Fair Grounds were looking for the airplane. Suddenly 44 they saw it coming. 集市上所有的人都在找飞机。突然就看到它来了。
　　Tom's family watched the airplane as it came down. 汤姆的家人在飞机降落时也在注视着它。
　　They thought about Tom and how he had wanted to see it. 他们想到了汤姆，他是多么想看它啊。
　　Mary said, "It would be more fun if Tom were here, too. He wanted to see the airplane." 玛丽说：“如果汤姆也在这里，就更好玩了。他想看飞机。”
　　"Poor Tom!" said father. "He stayed at home so that we could have a good time at the fair." 父亲说：“可怜的汤姆！ 他待在家里，只为我们在集市上玩得愉快。”
　　"Tom always thinks of others." Said his mother,  妈妈说：“汤姆总是为别人着想。
　　"I wish he would get here in time to see the airplane." 我希望他能及时赶到看看飞机。”
　　The airplane was now on the ground and came rolling slowly 45 across the field 18. 飞机现在落到地面上，慢慢地在地上滑行。
　　As it came nearer and nearer, someone 46 cried, "Oh look! There is a boy in the airplane." 随着它越来越近，有人叫道：“哦，快看，飞机上有个男孩！”
　　The airplane stopped. A man got out and then helped the boy out. 飞机停了下来。男人走了出来，然后帮男孩也走出来。
　　What a surprise for Tom's family! They could hardly believe 47 their own 15 eyes. It was Tom! 这对汤姆一家来说是多么的惊喜！他们简直不敢相信自己的眼睛。这是汤姆！
　　They were very proud 48 of him. And he was proud too.  他们为他感到骄傲。他也很自豪。
　　He was the only boy who had ever come to the Fair in an airplane. 他是唯一一个乘飞机来集市的男孩。
