Mini-Forum: The Disappointing 1 Date

SECTION 2 1
Martin: How do you like it?
Lee: It’s nice.
Martin: Have you been here before?
Lee: No, I haven’t.
Martin: Neither have I, but it’s supposed to be good.
Lee: Well, it looks nice.
Martin: You can dance here and there’s a 1)cabaret.
Lee: Yes, I saw but no dancing or cabaret tonight.
Martin: Why not tonight?
Lee: That’s only on Fridays and Saturdays.
Martin: How do you know?
Lee: It says on the door, dancing and cabaret Fridays and Saturdays.
Martin: Damn 4!
Lee: Never mind, it’s still a nice restaurant.
Martin: Yes, but I wanted to dance.
Lee: Well, perhaps they’ll let you if you really want to dance.
Waiter: Are you ready to order now, sir, madam?
Lee: Oh, I haven’t looked at the menu yet.
Martin: Just a moment we’re not quite ready.
Waiter: All right, I’ll come back in a minute.
Martin: Ah, let’s see what have they got.
Lee: Hmm, fresh tomato soup sounds nice, 2)Salad Nicoise.
Martin: Don’t you want something warm?
Lee: The soup should be warm.
Martin: Yes it should be.
Lee: What are you having?
Martin: I was thinking 5 of game, perhaps 3)pheasant or something.
Lee: Where’s that?
Martin: Page five on the right.
Lee: Ooh, yes, looks good.
Martin: Quite hungry I wonder if there’s enough.
Lee: Have a soup as well.
Martin: Yes, I will but you know these expensive restaurants.
Lee: What about them?
Martin: Well, they cook everything very nicely but they don’t give you very much. You get a very big plate with two very small potatoes on it.
Lee: Ask them for extra 6 potatoes.
Martin: I will.
Waiter: Are you ready to order now?
Martin: Yes please.
Waiter: Yes.
Lee: I’ll have the tomato soup and then a Salad Nicoise.
Waiter: Certainly, madam, and for you sir?
Martin: Tell me are the 4)portions here big ones?
Waiter: Beg 8 your pardon.
Martin: I’m quite hungry I want quite a lot to eat.
Waiter: Well if it’s not enough you can always have an extra portion 7.
Martin: OK, well, I’ll have the pheasant with extra potatoes.
Waiter: Oh, I’m sorry. I’m afraid there’s no pheasant today it isn’t the season, um perhaps something else? The 5)venison is very good.
Martin: Where?
Waiter: Uh, there, it’s very good or the lamb 9 6)cutlets...

SECTION 2
Lee: Well, thank you very much for a very nice evening Martin.
Martin: Not at all.
Lee: The restaurant was very good and that little bar 3 was nice too.
Martin: Isn’t there somewhere else you’d like to go? There’s another nice bar around here.
Lee: No, uh, I think it’s time to go home.
Martin: Are you sure?
Lee: I want to feel fresh tomorrow.
Martin: OK then.
Lee: I’m sorry you didn’t have a dance.
Martin: Well it’s not serious.
Lee: And that you didn’t have enough to eat.
Martin: Well having those chips in the bar helped, I’m not so hungry now.
Lee: Good, well, goodnight and thanks.
Martin: Are you gonna invite me inside for a coffee?
Lee: No.
Martin: No?
Lee: No, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
Martin: Just for a coffee?
Lee: No, I think not, not this time.
Martin: Well that’s not very friendly.
Lee: I’m sorry, thanks for a very nice evening.
Martin: Well if you insist 10...
Lee: I’m not trying to be unfriendly.
Martin: What about tomorrow night, what about going out somewhere tomorrow night?
Lee: Maybe, we’ll see.
