LESSON 50 SUMMER 第五十课 夏天
Now it is summer. The days are long, and the sun is up in the sky hours before you are awake. 现在是夏天了。白天变长了。太阳在你苏醒的几小时前就已经升起来了。
The trees are full of leaves, and the garden is gay with flowers. 树上长满了树叶，花园里因为有花显得生机盎然。
The hay-makers are busy in the fields. Do you know what hay is? 干草机在田间忙碌着。你知道什么是干草吗？
It is long grass cut down and dried. The men who cut it down are called the mowers. 那是一些断掉了的干了的杂草。剪断草的机器叫做割草机。
They cut it with long sharp scythes 1, or with reaping machines. 它们用尖锐的镰刀或收割工具剪断杂草。
And women and girls toss it about in the field, that the wind and the sun may dry it. 女人和女孩们把草扔开来，这样风和太阳可以吹干和晒干这些杂草。
How sweetly smells the new-mown hay! 新除掉的杂草闻着多么的清甜啊！
When the hay is dry, it is made into a hay-stack. 当草变干后可以制成草垛，
It is now ready to be used to feed horses and cows in winter, when there is no grass in the fields for them to eat. 当冬天田里没有草吃的时候它们可以用来喂给马和牛吃。
'Tis summer,by the blue of the sky; 我知道的夏天有蓝蓝的天空，
By the trees' deeper green, 深绿的大树，

Now ring the sharp scythes,of the mowers all day, 除草机的尖锐的镰刀响起了铃声，

O summer, sweet summer, 夏天啊，甜美的夏天，
