   LESSON 64 ON THE SHORE 第六十四课 在岸边


  Edith took her little sister to play on the sands by the sea-shore. 伊迪斯带着她的小妹妹到海岸的沙滩上玩耍。
  They saw a great many pretty shells 1 and stones lying about, and they began to pick them up. 他们看到了很多精致的贝壳和石块,他们就开始捡。
  Further and further they went, looking for more shells and stones, but not thinking about the sea. 走的越来越深,找到了更多的贝壳和石块,却没有考虑海水。
  At last their pockets were full, and they turned to go home; but they could not move from the place, for the water had come right round where they stood. 最后他们的口袋装满了,他们掉头回家;但他们并不能移动, 因为海水把他们包围了。

  The boy carefully carried Edith's little sister up the beach and placed her on a dry place. 小男孩抱着伊迪斯的妹妹上岸,把她放在干的地方。
  At once the little girls ran home and told their mother how good the boy had been to them. 小女孩立刻跑回家告诉她的妈妈小男孩的善举。
  She was very glad, and she sent him a pretty present for the kind deed he had done. 她妈妈很高兴,给小男孩送了精巧的礼物作为对他善良的感谢。
