At the dawn of this century, at the Millennium 2 Summit, world leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and security, human rights and good governance. They agreed on a set of time-bound targets, encapsulated in the Millennium Development Goals, to reducing extreme poverty, hunger, needless disease and other global social and environmental ills by 2015. And they recognized that these objectives demand that we must all practice mutual 3 respect and accept shared responsibility.
在本世纪初举行的千年首脑会议上，世界各国领导人重申他们致力于实现和平与安全、人权和善政。他们商定了一组统称为千年发展目标的有时限的具体目标，以在2015年之前减少极端贫穷、饥饿、不必要的疾病以及其他全球社会和环境祸害。他们认识到，若想实现这些目标，要求我们大家必须相互尊重和分担责任。
This year we mark Human Solidarity Day with the resolve to work together to bridge the remaining gaps to reach the Millennium Development Goals and define the path we will follow after 2015 to achieve a more sustainable future for all. We all have a role in overcoming today’s economic, political, environmental and social challenges, and we must all share the costs and benefits of sustainable development according to needs and ability. This is the essence of justice, fairness and equity 4. It is the meaning of solidarity.
今年我们在纪念人类团结日时，决心共同努力，弥补在实现千年发展目标方面尚存的差距，并制订2015年后所要遵循的道路，以期为所有人实现更可持续的未来。在克服当今的经济、政治、环境和社会挑战方面，我们大家都应发挥作用，并按照需要和能力，分担可持续发展的费用，共享可持续发展的好处。这正是公正、公平和平等的本质。这正是团结的含义。
On this Human Solidarity Day, I urge people from all nations, faiths, cultures and traditions to work together in common cause to keep the promise made at the turn of the Millennium and leave a legacy 5 of peace, prosperity and sustainable progress for generations to come.
同的事业中共同努力，兑现在新旧千年交替之际所做的承诺，为子孙后代留下和平、繁荣和可持续进步的遗产。
