"Can't you find another teacher?" asked Stuart.
“你能再找到一位教师吗？”斯图亚特问。
No, that's the trouble.
不能，那不可能。
There's nobody in this town who knows anything; no spare teachers, no anything.
这个城市里再没人什么都懂了，没有可以雇佣的老师，什么都没有了。
School is supposed to begin in an hour.
一小时内学校就该上课了。
"I will be glad to take Miss Gunderson's place for a day, if you would like," suggested Stuart agreeably.
“我很高兴能替冈德森小姐代一天课，如果你愿意的话，”斯图亚特欣然说道。
The Superintendent 1 of Schools looked up.
督学抬起了头。
Really?
真的？
"Certainly," said Stuart. "Glad to."
“当然了，”斯图亚特说。“我愿意效劳。”
He opened the door of the little car and stepped out.
他打开车门走了出来。
Walking around to the rear, he opened the baggage compartment 2 and took out his suitcase.
他来到车后，打开后车盖，取出了他的手提包。
"If I'm to conduct a class in a schoolroom, I'd better take off these motoring togs and get into something more suitable," he said.
“如果我要去一间教室管理一个班，那么我最好还是脱下这套开车时的打扮，换上一身得体点儿的衣服，”他说。
Stuart climbed the bank, went into the bushes, and was back in a few minutes wearing a pepper-and-salt jacket, old striped trousers, a Windsor tie, and spectacles.
斯图亚特钻进了路边的灌木丛，几分钟后他走了出来，身上穿着椒盐色的短外衣，老式的条纹裤，还打上了一条温莎领带，戴上了眼镜。
He folded his other clothes and packed them away in the suitcase.
别的衣服都被他叠好，放回了他的手提包里。
"Do you think you can maintain discipline?" asked the Superintendent.
“你想你能管好他们吗？”督学问。
"Of course I can," replied Stuart.
“我当然能，”斯图亚特回答。
I'll make the work interesting and the discipline will take care of itself. Don't worry about me.
