Mark: Jingjing, what's the latest about your friendMeili and that guy she was dating?

马克: 京晶，你的朋友美丽和她那个约会对象最近怎么样了?

Jingjing: Well, they haven't seen much of eachother these days. Gaofeng got a job, and it'skeeping him pretty busy.

京晶: 嗯，这些天他们很少见面。高峰刚找了份新工作，挺忙的。

Mark: I bet Meili expected they'd get right backtogether once he found work.

马克: 我敢说，美丽肯定以为他一找到工作他们就能和好如初了呢。

Jingjing: He says he's been swamped since he started. But Meili thinks he might be holding itagainst her that her parents kept them apart.

京晶: 他说他的新工作一上来就忙得不可开交。但美丽觉得，他可能还在因为她父母把他们分开的事而责怪她。

Mark: It might be both. Anyway, she should give him some time to get adjusted to the newposition.

马克: 可能两个原因都有。不管怎样，她应该给他一些时间来适应新的职位。

Jingjing: Yeah, some bosses really light a fire under their new employees.

京晶: 是啊，有些老板会对新员工施加很大压力。

Mark: He'll want to prove himself there, to be sure. How about Meili, then? How's she holdingup?

Jingjing: Like I said, she's worried about the distance between her and Gaofeng. She's notsure if Gaofeng is Mr Right.

Mark: If she's really not sure, then he's probably not the one. But it's normal to go through aperiod of doubts now and then.

Jingjing: You think people are sure, when they've found their soul mate?

Mark: Yeah. I think so.

Jingjing: What are some ways to be sure?

Mark: Well, the two people don't get tired of each other, or run out of things to talk about.Also, they don't feel like they have to put on a show for the other person.

Jingjing: It seems like Gaofeng and Meili have passed that test.

Jingjing: So, what are your thoughts about how someone can know if they've met their soulmate?

Mark: I think it's mostly about how comfortable two people feel with each other. You know, ifsomeone goes home to a happy place, they are glad also to go out and make money.

马克: 我认为最重要的是看两个人在一起是不是感觉舒服。你知道，如果一个人回到家里让他感到快乐和温暖，他也会很乐意出去赚钱。

Jingjing: Right. We talked about that already. What about when people first meet and go on afew dates?

Mark: There's a bit of a biological explanation. It has to do with a person's natural smell.

Jingjing: That sounds kinda weird. Are you talking about pheromones?

Mark: That word gets thrown around a lot. But I saw a cool experiment that made me believeit.

Mark: No, but they had six women each wear a T-shirt for two days, then put each T-shirt in ajar. Then one guy smelled each of the T-shirts and rated them 1 to 6.

Mark: Those would be great odds. But he went on a date with each woman, then rated eachdate 1 to 6.

马克: 那几率有点小。但是他被安排和每名女性约了会，并给每个人打了分，同样从1到6。

Jingjing: Let me guess, the best-smelling old T-shirt and the best date was the same woman.

京晶: 我猜，衬衫味道最高分和约会对象最高分是同一个女人。

Mark: Bingo. I think it proves that smell is a factor.

马克: 没错。我认为这证明了气味是判断真爱的一个因素。

Jingjing: Hmm. In a world concerned with beauty and money, it's one more thing to consider.

Mark: Yep, and it might make a world of difference.

Jingjing: Ok. I'll ask Meili if she's taken a whiff of Gaofeng.
