[01:09.90]75% of the earth is covered by rivers,lakes and oceans,

[01:15.91]so it is truly a water planet.

[01:19.07]Unfortunately,most of the water can not be used for drinking.

[01:23.80]The earth is already becoming a thirsty planet.

[01:27.85]But there are still time to do something about the problem.

[01:32.24]If we want to have enough water in the future,

[01:35.69]we must learn to take better care of our water,

[01:39.66]we must stop polluting the water

[01:42.90]we must learn to save water in our daily life.

[01:46.74]Part two  We should take better care of our water,

[01:51.70]most of the fresh water on the earth is being used for farming 6.

[01:56.66]We use clean water to grow food.

[01:59.82]We need food of course,

[02:02.70]but we must be more careful when we use our water.

[02:07.06]Too much water is being wasted because we are using all the ways of watering our plant.

[02:13.41]We must solve this problem if we want to have enough water in the future.

[04:25.90]we are here today because we want you to listen,to listen to everybody.

[06:10.91] it is about doing something about the problems we are facing.

[06:19.64]That's why I brought this bag.

[06:24.84]Well,I'll show you.Yes,that's right. Rubbish.

[06:29.69]On my way over here,

[06:31.97]I picked up the rubbish I saw on rubbish bins 12 on the street.

[06:36.02]So that I can talk to you about what rubbish really is.

[06:40.38]Some of you might think that rubbish is what we throw away.

[06:44.40]Something useless that only causes problems.

[06:47.88]Well,I say that that's rubbish,let me explain what I mean.

[06:53.83]What is really in this bag?

[06:57.07]Resources 13,possibilities,money,jobs,and solutions.

[07:04.72]What we call rubbish today is actually the resources of tomorrow.

[07:10.58]Let me tell you how we can use rubbish,some leftover 15 food,

[07:52.84]A:Can you tell me about the project you worked on in Egypt?

[07:56.81]B:Egypt has developed a large program to clean up and protect its water.

[08:02.27]One of the projects is to help small farmers

[08:06.43]build small channels to make sure that the water supplied by the government

[08:11.89]can be used in the best way possible.

[08:14.94]A:So,what was the problem?

[08:18.18]It was often difficult for farmers to keep the channels clean and in good order.

[08:24.66]The channels were used as rubbish bins

[08:28.29]and too many plants grew where the water should flow.

[08:32.44]A:How did you solve the problem?

[08:35.37]At first,we thought that the farmers simply didn't understand the situation,

[08:41.72] and that we could solve the problem by educating them.

[08:45.37]But just make sure we interviewed some farmers and observed what they were doing.

[08:51.44]A:What did you do to learn more about the farmers and their work?

[08:56.58]B:Well,we visited many farmers and their families,

[09:01.54]We also formed small discussion 16 groups

[09:05.20]in which we talked about the problem and what could be done about it.

[09:09.64]A:What do the farmers think and do?

[09:12.52]B:We found that the farmers did know about the problem,

[09:17.17]and had paid a company to clean the channels.

[09:20.64]But they didn't do it often enough.

[09:23.70]Part two

[09:25.37]A:Why didn't the farmers clean the channels often enough?

[09:29.73]B:They thought that the government was responsible 17 for the channels.

[09:34.88]And they only clean them up when there was too much rubbish.

[09:39.55]They felt that this was unfair and didn't believe what the government said


[09:45.12]A:And how did the government react 18 to this?

[09:48.88]B:Well,they were very surprised.

[09:53.03]They decided 19 to show the farmers that there were serious about the problem.

[09:58.20]Farmers and the government would work together.

[10:02.46]The farmers formed a group that would oversee 20 the work.

[10:06.82]A special channel cleaning day was chosen and farmers

[10:11.79] and the government decided to share the costs.

[10:15.55]The farmers would pay for the cleaning equipment

[10:20.02] and the government would pay for taking the rubbish away.

[10:23.67]A:That sounds like a good solution.

[10:26.73]B:It was. Working together also give people a chance to understand the dangerous of throwing rubbish in the channels.

[10:35.87]It stops the water from flowing,

[10:38.72]and made it dangerous for children to swim in the channel.

[10:42.95] and for women to use the water at home.

[10:46.11]A:Were the farmers happy about the solution?

[10:49.64]B:Yes,they were. The project was a success.

[10:57.03]more things were achieved and everybody learned from the experience
