 "LET DOROTHY GO TO THE CITY OF EMERALDS" ‘让多萝茜去翡翠城吧’

The little old woman took the slate 1 from her nose, and having read the words on it, asked, "Is your name Dorothy, my dear?" 小老妇人从她的鼻子上拿下石板来，读着这句话，问道：“我的亲爱的宝贝儿，你可是叫多萝茜？”
"Yes," answered the child, looking up and drying her tears. “没错”，小女孩子抬起头来，擦干了眼泪。
"Then you must go to the City of Emeralds. Perhaps Oz will help you." “那么，你一定要去翡翠城，说不准奥芝能帮助你。”
"Where is this city?" asked Dorothy. 多萝茜问：“翡翠城在哪里？”
"It is exactly in the center of the country, and is ruled by Oz the Great Wizard I told you of." “在全国的中心，由奥芝统治着的，我说过，他是一个伟大的男巫。”
"Is he a good man?" inquired 2 the girl anxiously. 多萝茜紧张地问着：“他肯定是个好人喽？”
"He is a good Wizard. Whether he is a man or not I cannot tell, for I have never seen him." “我只能告诉你他是一个好巫师。至于他是不是好人，我无法告诉你，我也没有见过他。”
"How can I get there?" asked Dorothy. 多萝茜问：“我怎样才能找到他？”
"You must walk. It is a long journey, through a country that is sometimes pleasant and sometimes dark and terrible. “你必须走着去。这是一个漫长的旅程，要经过一个国家，有时光明快乐，有时黑暗可怕。
However, I will use all the magic arts I know of to keep you from harm." 不管怎么样，我会用我的魔术帮助你，让你免受祸患。”
"Won't you go with me?" pleaded 3 the girl, who had begun to look upon the little old woman as her only friend. “你不能带我去吗？”小女孩子恳求道，她已经开始把这个小老妇人当做她唯一的朋友了。

She came close to Dorothy and kissed her gently on the forehead. 她捧住多萝茜的头，轻轻地吻了一下她的前额。
Where her lips touched the girl they left a round, shining mark, as Dorothy found out soon after. 当她的嘴唇触着小女孩子后，就留下了一个又圆又亮的记号，这是多萝茜后来才发现的。
"The road to the City of Emeralds is paved 4 with yellow brick," said the Witch, "so you cannot miss it. 女巫说：“到翡翠城去的路，全部是用黄砖铺成的，所以你不会迷路。
When you get to Oz do not be afraid of him, but tell your story and asked him to help you. 你找到奥芝后，不要怕他，就把你的故事告诉他，恳求他帮助。

The three Munchkins bowed low to her and wished her a pleasant journey, Pleasant journey! Good bye! Good bye! Good bye! Good bye! 三个芒奇金人也走上前向她低低地鞠着躬，祝愿她旅行愉快，旅途愉快！再见！再见！再见！再见！
After which they walked away through the trees. 然后，他们钻进树林里去了。
The Witch gave Dorothy a friendly little nod, whirled 5 around her left heel three times, and straightway disappeared,  女巫向着多萝茜友好地、轻轻地点一点头，用她的左脚跟旋转了三次，马上就消失了。
much to the surprise of little Toto, who barked after her loudly enough when she had gone, because he had been afraid even to growl 6 while she stood by. 小托托吓了一跳，女巫走掉后，它还在她的后面大声地吠着，因为它害怕她，所以当女巫站在旁边时，它根本不敢发出任何声响。
But Dorothy, knowing her to be a witch, had expected her to disappear in just that way, and was not surprised in the least. 但是多萝茜知道她是一个女巫，她这样子走开，完全在她的意料之中。
