My names is A.Welcome to the 360 Broadcast. Here is a possible deal against budget stand off. Let's get started.
After a day, the shutdown mess that sounded at first like more of the same, either side seeming to budge 1. The only thing that I will say is, that we are not gonna pay a ransom 2 for Americans paying its bill. That's something that should be non-negotiable and everybody should agree on it. Everybody should say one of most valuable things we have is America's credit worthiness 3.This is not something we should even come close to fooling around with.
President Obama just said this afternoon and this is how is with Mr. B.
The warn of it is there is gonna be a negotiation 4 here. We can't raise the debt ceiling without doing something about what's driving us to borrow more money and to live beyond our means.
And these were the sound got by the big headlines. However with days went on we began getting signs that Republican side was latching 5 on something else president Obama said. Is it possible a way out of or at least part of the crisis? D is working their sources what they draw is now. D I want start with you on the debt ceiling increase specifically which days ago before default. Tell us about is there is real hope for a possible compromise.
Well Anderson, i now have 2 senior house republican sources telling me that house republicans maybe willing to go along with the short term increasing the debt ceiling, in order to buy time to negotiate the package reforms that is addressing the debt deficit 6. That these resources were reacting to the president saying today that he will be open to that now. To be certain, there is still a chicken or egg situation which is gonna come first. The president and congressional democrats 8 are insisting they will not negotiate on anything until the debt ceiling is raised and the government is re-opened. Republicans are also saying they won't pass either unless a guarantee of the big debt deficit is somehow addressed. So the mechanic of how this will work, how to be awfully 9 and carefully worked out, how this will happened is a big question, Anderson, because they are talking it all behind the scenes and told nothing substantive 10, so this is all going through frankly 11 us and other sources.
J is covering the White House. J, so the president opened his door to a short term extension of the debt ceiling and White House official immediately came out that there is a word of caution on it. What do you hear?
That's right. What they basically said in an initial talk with White House official right after the president news conference, official say hey, come on, we need to talk about this what the president just said. They wanna make sure that House Republicans understand this that if the president agrees to a brief temporary a short term debt ceiling increase, that is not an invitation to a strand 12 of working sessions. They are not going to get into negotiations 13 with Republicans again with the debt ceiling clock ticking down to zero. What they say at this point is the House Republicans and a second debt ceiling scenario 14 start talking on day 18, as what they say , a 21 day debt ceiling increase about warning concessions 15 and so forth 16. We can get to a very critical stage as White House official said, at that point House Republican will just have to compass something that will extend the debt ceiling for a year. But something else the president said today, Anderson, that was very interesting and you also have to go back the tape and look at it. The president said that he was willing to attach something, some kind of discussion, a mandatory 17 discussion that will have to take place after a clean continue resolution is passed, after a clean debt ceiling is passed, what that means? We have no idea, but he is committing himself to some kind of discussion process that will take place once they get the threat to default and once they get till the government re-open.
I am Anderson, and I appreciate J's coverage 18 as well. Thanks J.
Now I wanna bring a political panel democratic charges, PG who handle message for House speaker / in the last shutdown republican, our steward 19 spokesman for 2012 embark 20 / tour and presidential campaigns. P, what do you make of this development?
Well I think D is exactly right. The real problem here is a trust problem, and it's enormous, and at a focal point is speaker B. Anderson, we do not trust speaker B. I doubt the president does either. Here is his wife, we both have dealing 21 with them. You know H said D was in September with John, they cut the deal they compromise, they negotiate, and speaker B asks H to get the senate democrats to vote for what republican level to cut huge cuts. The democrats will never support in a normal course of business, but in order to get a deal and yes to make a payment on the debt deficit we agree to do so. The democrat 7 swallowed hard and voted for it and then B broke his word. He won't nailed on his word. He won't put it on the floor now even though CNN's vote count says pass. That's why H doesn't trust him. I wouldn't trust him either. I suspect that's why the president doesn't want to negotiate with him because he won't keep his word or he can't deliver his word. You see what is going on with N, when he made a deal he stuck to the deal.
