1. House republicans are expected to work on a temporarily spending package behind closed-doors on Wednesday. They are under pressure to avoid a government shutdown with the election coming in November.
2. President Obama's visit to Laos included a stop in a rehabilitation 1 center that helps people who need prosthetic limb. The U.S dropped millions of bombs on Laos during the Vietnam war, and explosions have killed and maimed thousands. President Obama has announced additional funding to help clean up unexploded bombs.
3. Cincinnati authorities are reporting a major spike 2 in heroin 3 overdoses and they say dealers 4 may be experimenting on addicts 5. At least eight people who died tested positive for a powerful drug that is used to sedate 6 elephants.
4. And the U.S has taken most Humpback whales off the endangered species list. It says the international efforts to protect the giant mammals have helped their population grow.
