【分析】复合句。Sternberg notes that...；此时 that 引导宾语从句，从句又由 but 连接的两个分句构成，but 后省略了 traditional tests; components also...作 creativity and practical knowledge 的同位语，起补充说明的作用。句首引号内的书名也是同位语，补充说明。
【译文】斯德伯格在他的文章《智力测试有多高明》中指出，传统测试很好地评估了分析和语言能力，但是却没有评估创造力和实践知识，而后者对解决问题和在生活中取得成功至关重要。
【点拨】1) note 既可以作名词，也可以作动词，意义较多；在本句中，该词意为“指出，表明”。2) assess 意为“评估，评定”，其名词是 assessment 3。
10. Research has found that IQ predicted leadership skills when the tests were given under low-stress conditions, but under high-stress conditions, IQ was negatively correlated with leadership—that is , it predicted the opposite.
【分析】多重复合句。主句主干为 Research has found that...；此时 that 引导宾语从句。该宾语从句又是由 but 连接的两个并列句组成。when 引导时间状语从句；破折号后的内容解释说明 but 后的分句。
【译文】研究表明智商测试在压力小的环境下进行时，他能预见领导能力；而当智商测试在压力大的环境下进行时，智商与领导能力负相关——也就是说，它预测出的领导能力与实际情况正好相反。
【点拨】1) under...condition 意为“在...条件下”。2) correlate with 意为“把...与...联系起来，找出一一对应的关系”。
