5、Odd though it sounds, cosmic inflation is a scientifically plausible 1 consequence of some respected ideas in elementary particle physics, and many astrophysicists have been convinced for the better part of a decade that it is true.
【分析】
并列连接两个并列的分句。第一个分句中，though引导让步状语从句，其中表语odd提前，起强调作用，翻译时应按照汉语表达习惯调整语序；主句为简单的主系表结构：cosmic inflation is a…consequence，其中，of some respected ideas in elementary particle physics是consequence的后置定语，翻译时前置， 而 in elementary particle physics 又可看作是 some respected ideas的后置定语，前置译。第二个分句中，that 引导宾语从句that it is true，作convinced的宾语，中间被状语for the better part of a decade隔开，翻译时把状 语前置，译于主谓之间，从而更符合汉语表达习愤。
