【分析】复合句。主句为主系表结构，其主干是the anthropological concept of culture …is an abstract concept …。主谓之间的 like the concept of “set” in mathematics可看作插入成分。which引导的定语从句解释说明concept，其中含make sth. possible的倒装语序，翻译时按正常语序译为“使…成为可能”，整个定语从句采用分译法顺译。
【点拨】1、thus译为“因此”或“所以”，不可想当然地译为“由此”或“总之”。2、anthropological意为“人类学的”。3、set在此处取“集”之意，译成“数列”是不对的。 4、abstract可以作名词，含义是“摘要”，此处用作形容词，意为“抽象的、深奥的”。5、concrete与abstract相对，指“具体的”，不可译为“实体的”或“复杂的”。
