5、He was willing to assert that “I have a fair share of invention, and of common sense or judgment 1, such as every fairly successful lawyer or doctor must have, but not, I believe, in any higher degree”.
【分析】复合句。He was willing to assert that。that引导宾语从句，as 引导定语从句修饰前面的invention, common sense 和 judgement,翻译时定语从句前置译。I believe为插入语，翻译可紧跟but后，然后整个句子顺译即可。
【点拨】have a fair share of可以理解为“有…相当一部分”翻译时表达出这一层意思即可。
【译文】他也乐于承认“像每位成功的律师碰医生那样，我有自己应有巧创造力、常识和判断力，但我认为我的这些能力并不比他们强”。
6、He adds humbly 2 that perhaps he was “superior to the common run of men in noticing things which easily escape attention, and in observing them carefully.
【分析】多重复合句。主句主干为He adds that;其中 that引导宾语从句。该宾语从句的主干为he Was superior to the common run of men;并列的介词短语 in noticing… and in observing…在从句中作状语，翻译时可结合比较关系进行处理。Which引导的定语丛句修饰things，由于从句不长，可采用前置译法。
【点拨】1、add意为“补充说，继续说”，不能译作“增加”。 2、humbly应译作“谦逊地，谦卑地”，而不是“低贱地，自卑地”。3、common run of man译作“普通人，一般人”，而不是“常常跑步的人”或“常常运动的人”。4、notice 在句中作动词，意为“注意”，不能译作名词的“通知”。5、escape attention在这里意为“被忽视，未被注意”，不能译作“走神”。
【译文】他谦虚地补充道，或许他“和普通人比起来，更能够注意到那些别人注意不到的东西，并对其进行细致的观察”。
