1、Traditionally, legal learning has been viewed in such institutions as the special preserve of lawyer, rather than a necessary part of the intellectual equipment of an educated person.
【分析】简单句。句子主干为legal learning has been viewed … as … rather than …。 句首副词Tradition-ally作状语；介词短语in such institutions作状语。翻译是按照汉语习惯置于主干部分之前；谓语view… as…常译作 “把…看成是…”；rather than译作“而不是…”；a neces-sary part后有两个of短语作后置定语，翻译时译作前置定语。
【点拨】1、legal learning译作“法律学习”或“学习法律”，不能译作“合法的学习”。2、such institutions 指上文中的Canadian universities，因此译为“这些大学”。3、 the special preserve of lawyer应译作“律师的特权”或 “律师的专属”，不能译作“特殊的律师”或“专门的律师”。4)intellectual equipment应译作“知识体系；知识 储备”，不能译作“智力装备”。
【译文】按照传统的观点，在这些大学里学习法律知识 一直被看作律师的特权,而不是作为一个受教育者必备知识的一部分。

【点拨】l、happily为评述性状语，放在句首修饰整句，译作“可喜的是”或“令人高兴的是”。2、legal education译 为“法学教育”或“法律教育”，不可译作“合法的教育”。
【译文】可喜的是，加拿大的许多大学正在确立更传统、 更具欧洲大陆特色的法律教育观点，有些大学甚至已经开始授予法学学士学位。
