7、In fact, it is difficult to see how journalists who do not have a dear grasp of the basic features at the Canadian Constitution can do a competent job on political stories.
【分析】多重复合句。主句主干为it is difficult to see…。从句how journalists…can do…作see的宾语,其中又包含 who引导的定语从句修饰journalists。翻译时要注意:主句中的it为形式主语，真正的主语是后面的不定式结构；因此it不必译，而是按照汉语的表达习惯增补泛指意义的词语“我们”。how引导的宾语从句可顺译。其中who引导的定语从句应译journalists的前置定语。
【点拨】l、a grasp of 意为“对…领会，理解”。2、the basic feature译作“基本特征，基本要点”。3、do a competent job中的competent转换成动词,译作“胜任工作”。
【译文】事实上,我们很难想象，一个对加拿大宪法的基本特征没有清楚理解的记者如何能胜任政治方面的报道工作。

【点拨】l、enhance意为“提高；丰富；完善”，这里为了使 意思更加明确，应增译为“提高…的质量”。2、preferable 转意为副词“更好，最好”，不能译作“更軎欢的”。3、 notion意为“观念；理解；看法”。
【译文】虽然律师所做出的评论和反应或许会提升新闻报道的质量，但是新闻记者最好能借助自己对该新闻重要程度的理解做出他们自己的判断。
