5、They may teach very well and more than earn their salaries, but most of them make little or no independent reflections on human problems which involve moral judgment 1.
【分析】并列复合句。but连接两个并列分句。句子主干为 They may teach…，but most of them make little or no independent reflections …。 very well 和 more than earn their salaries 为并列状语，修饰动词 teach；on human problem为定语后置修饰reflections；定语从句 which involve moral judgment 修饰human problems。 本句话相对简单，句子用“虽然…但是…”的结构，即可从前往后按顺序翻译，需要注意的就是句子最后的定语从句较短，可前置，翻译为“的”字结构。
【点拨】l、more than“不仅仅，超过”。2、little在句中表示否定含义，不能译为“一些”，也不能直译为“一点，几乎没有”，应将其否定转移至修饰动词make，译为“没有进行”。3、make reflections on“对…进行思考”。
【译文】他们或许教得很好，而且不仅仅是为了挣薪水，但他们大多数人却很少或没有对涉及道德判断的人类问题进行独立思考。
