7、Because most of us believe that mind is separate from matter, we think that thoughts can be hidden and made powerless; this allows us to think one way and act another.
【分析】并列多重复合句。分号连接两个并列分句。第 一个分句中包含because引导的原因状语从句，从句中又包含that引导的宾语从句，主句为we think that…，that引导的从句作think的宾语；第二个分句为简单句。翻译时整个句子顺译，this allows us…为了符合汉语的表达习惯，可译为“因此我们就可以…”。
【译文】因为我们大部分人都相信思想和物质是分开的，我们认为可以隐藏思想，使之无足轻重；因此我们就可以想一套而做另一套。

【分析】多重复合句。since引导原因状语从句，其中包含that引导的定语从句:，修饰先行词thoughts;主句为 Allen concluded…，引号内的从句作concluded的宾语。翻译时整个句子顺译，定语从句由于较短前置译。what we are结合语境可意译为“我们的本质”。【点拨】1、will在本句中意为“意志” 2、accord with “与…相一致，与…相符合”。
【译文】因为欲望和意志被与欲望不一致的思想所破坏，爱伦总结说：“我们吸引的不是我们想要的，而是我们的本质。”
