5、While it is easy to ignore in our contact with them the effect of our acts upon their disposition 1, it is not easy as in dealing 2 with adults.
【分析】复合句。while引导让步状语从句，其中it是形式主语，真正的主语是不定式短语。注意ignore与其宾语 the effect of…被状语.in our contact with them 隔开了，分离结构翻译时按照汉语习惯应前置。主句和从句的结构相同，并列结构中的同等句子成分被省略，完整形式是it is not so easy to ignore the effect of our acts upon their disposition in dealing with adults；翻译时为了避免重复，可以用“这种情况”、“这种影响”，来指代被省略的内容。
【点拨】while引导的是让步状语从句，故要译成“虽然”或“尽管”。2、disposition有“意向、命封；排列、布置；性情、性格”等意思，在此利用语境，选择“性情、性格”义项。
【译文】虽然在与年轻人的接触中，我们容易忽略自己的行为对他们的性情所产生的影响，然而和成年人打交道时这种情况就不那么容易发生。

【分析】多重复合句。句子主干是 we cannot help considering…。whether引导的从句作consider的宾语，宾语从句中包含which引导的定语从句，修饰powers。句首since 引导原因状语从句。翻译时原因状语从句、宾语从句顺译，宾语从句嵌套的定语从句较短，前置翻译为“的”字 结构。
【点拨】1、business词义较多，有“商业；生意，交易；职 责，职务；事物”等意思，在此根据搭配business with them,可确定词义为：（对年轻人）所负的职责，（对年轻人)，所做的工作。2、share in a common life可译为“在日常生活中（懂得/学会）分享”，不可译为“分享一种普通的生活”或“享有正常的生活”。 3、power意为“影响力； 政权、权利；力量”，根据下文对其限定的定语从句可确定词义为“力量”。
【译文】由于我们对轻人所做的首要工作在于使他们能够在生活中彼此相融，因此我们不禁要考虑自己是否在形成让他们获得这种能力的为量。
