The US’ House of Representatives Armed Services Committee has approved the country’s next defense 1 budget bill. One part of the bill clarifies US support for Japan’s recent moves to strengthen its military.
The bill says the US supports Japan’s recent increases in its defense budget, the formation of its National Security Council, and other moves that will enable Japan to bear greater responsibilities in its security alliance with the US.
Japan’s Kyoto news agency says the bill will help Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lift Japan’s self-imposed ban on the right to exercise collective self-defense.
