Negotiators from Myanmar’s government and the ethnic 1 Kachin Independence Organization have agreed to set up a conflict coordination 2 and settlement group. It will be the first phase of implementing 3 a joint 4 monitoring mechanism 5 included in 2013 peace talks.
The two sides also agreed to increase coordination for future talks. The peace talks were attended by other armed ethnic groups as well as UN and Chinese special envoys 6 as observers.
During their April 8 ceasefire talks in Yangon, the Myanmar government and armed ethnic groups agreed on presenting the first draft of a nationwide ceasefire agreement to be discussed further in the following talks.
