The Ukrainian Defense 1 Ministry 2 has released a video showing the aftermath of an attack on a group of its soldiers near the city of Kramatorsk, in the Donetsk region. Tuesday’s attack was the deadliest the Ukrainian military has seen since it launched an operation last month to quell 3 the situation in the east of the country.
Local citizens collect parts of a seized APC that was set alight during a fighting between and government troops at Oktyabrskoye village, about 20 km. (12 miles) from Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
The defense ministry says six servicemen were ambushed 5 and killed, and eight others wounded in the assault. The ministry adds the attackers included at least 30 people who were using grenade launchers and automatic weapons. A seventh soldier may have died in the attack.
In an address to parliament on Wednesday, vice-chairman Ruslan Koshu-lynskiy stated that seven paratroopers were killed. Injured soldiers were evacuated 6 from the region by helicopter, whilst others patrolled the area of the ambush 4.
