The votes have been cast, the jury 1 has had its say and the winners have been announced - the 2014 Cannes Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday on the glamorous 2 French Riviera.
Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan finally walked away with the Palme d'Or for his latest film to enter the competition "Winter Sleep". Twice the bridesmaid, the filmmaker says it's better being the bride.
"It means a lot of course. Two times I received Grand Jury Prize, which means second prize, and one time Best Director, but now I understand that this feels very different. There's a huge difference between second prize and first prize, believe me," Ceylan said.
The American drama "Foxcatcher" earned Best Director honors 3 for Bennett Miller 4. The Cannes first-timer says his project has been a long-time labor 5 of love.
"This film took eight years to make. And so to finish the film, and then a few days later, bring it to this audience, and to have it received like that when you really don't know what's going to happen is extraordinary," Miller said.
Twenty-five-year-old Xavier Dolan, the youngest winner this year, shared the jury prize with Jean-Luc Godard, the oldest winner at 83.
The Quebecois auteur has already had four films kicking around in various sections of the festival.
He says he's not fazed by critics who are hung up on his tender 6 age and doesn't feel pressure to deliver anything other than what he is inspired by.
"People keep repeating, 25, so young, pressure, I don't even know what these words are. I create because I've got things to say. I want to work with artists that inspire me, like actors and actresses. There's no pressures in winning something and there's no pressure," Dolan said.
And so ends the 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, no doubt providing the winners with memories to last a lifetime.
