【分析】并列复合句。分号连接两个并列分句。第一个分句的主干为The upside is the possibilities,过去分词短语 contained in knowing that everything is up to us 作Possibilities的后置定语，其中包含that引导的宾语从句;第二个分句包含where引导的状语从句,where在 这里是in what situation“在某种情况下”的意思。翻译时注意第一个分句中的后置定语根据逻辑关系可以转 换为让步状语从句；第二个分句中where引导的状语从句顺译。
【点拨】1、upside“积极的一面,正面”，不能译为“上面”。2、第二个分句中的名词experts, authorities均灵活译作动词。
【译文】积极的一面是，既然万亊都取决于我们，那么就有无限可能。以前，我们能够熟练应对种种局限；现在，我们把握着未来的可能。

【点拨】1、weaver“织工，编织者”。2、circumstance常用意为“情况，条件，境遇”，本句中根据前面的搭配译为“环境”。
【译文】詹姆士·爱伦的《思考的人》是对自助自立这一中心思想的深入探索。它的主题是“思想是编织大师”，它创造了我们内在的性格和外部环境。
