[职场礼节美语之二十八]上班穿袜子要注意

 陈豪在北京的ABC美国公司工作。他上班中间休息，跟美国同事Amy一起下楼喝茶。

 
（office ambience）
 
陈豪:Amy，你干嘛老看我的脚啊？Amy, why are you always noticing my feet?
 
Amy: I am sorry, I just couldn’t help noticing that you aren’t wearing socks today.对不起，我只是忍不住注意到你今天没穿袜子
 
陈豪:天太热了，不穿袜子还凉快点儿。It’s pretty hot. I feel a bit cool without socks.
 
Amy : Personally, that might be all right, but professionally that’s a bad decision.对于个人而言，那是正确的选择，但从职业角度来说，它是个糟糕的决定。
 
陈豪:为什么？我见过很多人上班都不穿袜子的。Why? I’ve seen many people go to work without socks.
 
Amy: However, at ABC company, professional dress is important for our corporate image. 然而，在ABC公司，职业的穿着对我们的公司形象很重要。
 
陈豪: 我上班穿西装，打领带，这还不够吗？I am in office with my coat and tie. Isn’t it enough? 
 
Amy: No. Would you consider not wearing a shirt with your coat and tie? 不够，你想要光着膀子穿西装，打领带吗？
 
陈豪: I absolutely wouldn’t.我当然不会光着膀子穿西装打领带了。
 
Amy: Then you shouldn’t consider wearing your shoes without socks. If your boss Mr. Jones sees you, he will not be pleased. 那么你就不应该想着穿鞋不穿袜子。如果你的老板琼斯先生看到你这样，他会不高兴的。
 
陈豪：那可坏了，我没带袜子啊，这怎么办？That’s bad! I have no socks along. What can I do?
 
Amy：Avoid Mr. J at all cost, then buy some socks when you go out for lunch today. There’s a department store right around the corner.无论如何避免见到琼斯先生。然后趁午饭时间出去买上袜子。在那个角落有个百货公司。
 
陈豪：恩，你说得对，我得先躲着点老板。中午吃饭的时候赶紧去商店买.双袜子穿上，I’ll see you later. Well, you are right. I’d better to avoid my boss, then get some socks when I go out for lunch. I’ll see you later.
 
Amy: Chenhao, did you find any socks?买到袜子了吗？
 
陈豪: I gonna put them on, but it’s too hot, so I bought two pairs of white socks. At least, it’s cooler to wear white socks than to wear black.正准备穿上了，天太热，我就买了两双白袜子。起码了比深颜色的袜子能凉快点。
 
Amy: Oh, dear! 噢，天哪！
 
陈豪:怎么啦？What’s up?
 
Amy: White socks are an inappropriate for corporate dress. They are more athletic wear and outdoor attire.白袜子跟公司服装搭在一起不合适。它们跟运动服及户外装搭在一起更恰当
 
陈豪：啊？白袜子是跑步打球穿的，不是是上班穿的。怎么这么多讲究呀！好在我还买了双深色的。服务员一直向我推销高腰的，就是可以拉到小腿肚儿上来的那种。我觉得太热，没买。Eh, white socks are for athletic wear but for corporate dress. There are so many rules on dressing up. Luckily, I’ve bought a pair of dark socks. The salesman asked me to buy the one which can cover my calf. I felt it could be too much warm to me, so I didn’t do that.
 
Amy：Oh, dear.噢，天哪！
 
陈豪:又怎么啦？
 
Amy: You should have listened to the salesman. Short socks just won’t do in the business environment. 你应该听那售货员的。短袜子真不适合在商务环境里穿
 
陈豪：那为什么？Why？
 
Amy: It’s because when you sit down and cross your legs in short socks, you expose everyone around you to the sight of your hairy legs. 这是因为当你坐下来，翘起二郎腿的时候，在场的人都会看到你的腿毛了。
 
(Eww. That’s so gross! 呃，好恶心啊！)
 
陈豪: Amy, 我从来没想到穿袜子还有真么多讲究。Amy，I’ve never known that here are pretty much rules about socks.
 
Amy: Your business attire is extremely important “right down to your socks”. 你的职业着装从头直到袜子都很重要。
 
陈豪：这么说，我穿成什么样儿也会影响到公司的形象了。看来我下班还得再去买袜子，Amy，你陪我去吧，完了事儿我请你吃饭。Well, how I dress up could have an impact on my corporate image. I have to buy some right. Amy, you should come with me, and I will treat you after I get my socks.
 
Amy: Thank you. I’ll look forward to that. 谢谢，很期待哦。
 
陈豪: Amy, 你能不能再告诉我一下上下班要穿什么样的袜子。这样我心里就有数了。Amy, could you tell me the appropriate way to wear socks in business environment and outdoor attire? I wanna clarify it.
 
Amy: Avoid white socks and short socks. The right sock in business is the one that covers your calf and matches your shoes and pants. 避免穿白短袜子。在商务环境中，要穿那种高腰儿的并且跟你鞋和裤子颜色相近才是正确的选择。
