lay off我们最常用的意思是“解雇”，但是lay off在口语中也经常表示“闭嘴，够了，别再说了”。如果你对某人或者对他/她所在意的事情说了些不客气的话，然后他/她说"Lay off!"时，他/她要表达的意思就是:"Shut up!"、"Button your lips!"、"Zip your mouth!"。
