Good morning, my buddies 1. Welcome to my class. I'm Juliet。A saying goes, "An hour in the morning is worth two hours in the evening." So, I hope we can spend a wonderful and meaningful 2 time here
If a speaker wants to know if everyone has understood something important that was said, how should he put it? Let’s listen to the following mini situational dialogue to get the answer. It happens between a teacher and a student at class.
A:I don’t allow cell 3 phones to be used in class. Do I make myself clear?
B:But sir, what if there is an emergency call from my parents?
All right, have you got the answer? It is “Do I make myself clear?”This is asking “Have you understood?” It’s similar to saying in Chinese——听懂我的话了吗？or 理解我的话了吗？For two more examples:
Example 1:I’m going to need a little bit more compensation 4. Do I make myself clear?
（译文：我需要更多一点的补偿，你明白了吗？）
Example 2:Ihad a great time with Jill last night, I make myself clear.
（译文：你也知道的，我昨晚和Jill度过了一个美妙的夜晚。）
If someone asks you whether he makes himself clear to you, you could say like this——I've heard you. This is a way of showing you have physically 5 heard something that has been said. It equals to Chinese—— 我听懂了你的话。
Let's see another mini situational dialogue. It happened between a mother and her son.
A:This place needs to be cleaned before you leave. Do you hear me?
B:Yeah, it's impossible not to hear you because you are shouting so loud.
The following phrases 6 in the above two dialogues should be bear in our mind. The are as follows:cell phones（手机）an emergency call（紧急电话）a call from（从......打来的电话）

4 compensation
