小时候拿着自己写得画得觉得自己有进步的一幅书画作品给父母看时，可能由于父母处于心情不好或是由于严厉的原因，看一眼，就说：“这幅字写得一点都也不好，怎么越写越差；画也画得不好，越画越差。”这无疑使我的自尊心受到一定的伤害。我想大家都有类似遭到“冷遇”的经历。那么，在今后的五天内，我将教您说“冷遇”，每日一招说“冷遇”（could reception）。
我们先来听2句话：
抛招1：If you invite her to a party, you'll just get the cold shoulder.
如果你邀请她参加晚会，你会自讨没趣。
抛招2：We got a cold shoulder from the older numbers of the club.
我们受到了俱乐部老会员们的冷眼相待。
接招：在上面的2个例句中都用到同一个词语：get the cold shoulder。这是一条动词性习惯用语。习语中cold shoulder冷淡地看待，怠慢的意思。Get the cold shoulder意思即为：受到冷遇，遭到不理睬，讨个没趣。这个短语是表示故意对某人很不友好,显示出讨厌或轻视某人的态度。要表述受到某人的冷眼相待，则在习语的后面用上介词from，即：get the cold shoulder from sb。要表述冷眼相待某人，不理睬某人，我们在可以用动词give来代替习语中的get，后面再加上表示人的名词或代词，即：give sb the cold shoulder。
那么，这个含有shoulder的词语为何有这样的意思呢？在十九世纪，西方人遇到不受欢迎的客人来访时，主人会故意端上冷冻的牛肩或羊肩，暗示客人快点离开。后人将这习俗化为了文字。
