陆明看到英文杂志上有很多奇怪的语言，于是就到Alice家中请教。楼上咚咚咚咚的敲鼓声一直持续不断，到了晚上12点后还听见楼上咚咚咚咚的敲鼓声。陆明问Alice是怎么回事，Alice说是楼上的人在练习爵士鼓，她也挺够烦的了，已经无数次地警告过他们在10点后就不要再敲了。可楼上的人把Alice的话当作耳边风。Alice气愤地说起此事时，陆明顿起疑惑，经一番解释后陆明明白了，可是最后又迸出了一句让Alice想破头也想不出的话。

Luming : Do you hear some drums upstairs? What is the matter?

我一而再再而三地叫他在11点之前练习，但现在是午夜了，简直是the last straw了，我不得不要骂粗话了，他这个狗娘养的。
Luming : The last straw? It's none of our chatting.

正如Alice所言，the last straw means " the last in a series of difficulties and unpleasant things after which the situation is unbearable"，中文意思即：（一些列打击，不愉快事件中）最终使人无法忍受的事情；终于导致垮台的因素；导火索。我们再来看一个小对话：
A: When he told me I had to work overtime 2, that was it.

你是忍无可忍了，是吗？
