[01:43.08]The Great Lakes

[01:46.42]The Great Lakes are the largest bodies of fresh water in the world.

[01:52.30]They are between the US and Canada.

[01:56.85]There are five lakes:Superior,Michigan,Huron,Erie and Ontario.

[02:05.31]When the earth was still in the Ice Age,

[02:09.57]there was a glacier 2 that covered the land in this area.

[02:14.92]then when the earth started to warm up,

[02:19.08]the glacier melted 3 and formed the Great Lakes.

[02:24.04]Ever since then,people have lived beside the Lakes,hunting,fishing,

[02:31.20]washing clothes,ice-skating and doing many other things.

[02:37.86]When Canada and America started building factories along the shores to the Lakes,

[02:44.52]they became polluted 4.

[02:47.76]The factories would put their waste into the Lakes.

[02:52.62]pretty soon the Lakes'ecosystem 5 was not right any more.

[02:58.08]When fish and plants began to die,

[03:02.23]a group of people and scientists knew something had to be done.

[03:08.40]They asked the government for a special program

[03:13.07]to help them clean up the Lakes and make them healthy again.

[03:18.53]These people set up a lab

[03:22.19]called the Great Lakes Environmental 6 Research Laboratory 7.

[03:27.46]After they had studied the Lakes' ecosystem,

[03:31.91]they found that the pollution was killing 8 the Lakes.

[03:36.66]They still study the ecosystem of the Great Lakes today.

[03:42.01]They have found out how the Lakes influence the weather in the world

[03:47.58]and how different ecological 9 events,like warm waters in the seas,

[03:53.74]influence the Great Lakes.

[03:57.58]If the Great Lakes dried up,the whole world would feel it.

[04:03.25]Many areas would become deserts and many animals would lose their homes and maybe die out.

[04:15.24]that it is very important to keep the ecosystem of the Great Lakes healthy and strong.

[05:12.74]I waited and waited until finally a bright scene came on.

[05:49.41]It didn't exactly sound like her,but then she was eating some popcorn.

[05:55.37]I said,"I'm hungry.I didn't have any dinner."

[06:00.62]Then I grabbed some more.

[06:04.09]Cecily then gave the popcorn to Phillip.

[06:08.64] Just then a terrible scene appeared in the film and we all screamed


[06:15.41]I grabbed Cecily and she grabbed Phillip.

[06:20.06]The popcorn spilled all over us.

[06:24.21]They both turned to me and said angrily,"What are you doing?"

[06:30.37]I couldn't understand why my friends were so angry.

[06:35.55]I turned to them and looked at both of them closely 13.I suddenly found....
