今天我们要讲的美国习惯用语是：to ask for the moon。Moon是月亮。Ask for the moon按字面意思来解释就是：要月亮。
作为习惯用语，to ask for the moon就是想做做不到的事情或是想要得不到的东西。比如说，我们社区的居民要求市政府修建一个新的健身设施。可是政府预算中根本就没有这笔开支，很明显这是做不到的。所以这是asking for the moon - 想要得不到的东西。比如说，有个老板要求工人大量提高产量。可是工人是怎么想的呢？
例句-1：The boss announced that he expects a 40% increase in productivity 1 this year. But without providing updated equipment or adding workers, there's no way we can meet his goal. He might as well ask for the moon.
这位工人说：老板宣布，他期待今年要增产40%。可是在不更新设备或是增加工人的情况下，我们是无法实现他的目标的。他简直就是异想天开。
有些公司为了减少开支而裁员，可是公司的生产任务并没有减少，结果雇员的负担越来越重。

例句-2：For their fiftieth wedding anniversary 2, my grandparents would like a big party with all the members of the family. But they're asking for the moon because many of our relatives either live too far away or can't afford to travel. It's simply not possible for everyone to attend.
这个孙子说：我祖父母想在结婚五十周年的时候举办一个大聚会，家里的所有人都来参加。可这是办不到的，因为很多亲戚不是住得太远就是出不起旅费。要所有的人都出席简直是不可能的。
西方人讲究庆祝结婚纪念日，其中最重要的当然是金婚纪念日，也就是五十周年。难怪这对老夫妇要大规模庆祝呢。
