Nearly 2 half of all Americans go on to college 3 when they graduate 4 from highschools. Some colleges 5 are small, with only a few 6 hundred students, but someof the big state 7 universities are huge 8, with up to 60,000 students. Thereare more than 2,600 universities in the USA, and nearly all colleges haveboth men and women students.
You can study many interesting subjects at college, in short or longcourses, but if you want to get a degree 10, you have to study for at leastfour years. Classes start in September and go on to early June with a breakin the middle.
In Britain 12, you can get a degree at university 13, or in some of the manycolleges of further 14 education 15. There are 42 universities in Britain. Thereare also many colleges in Britain that teach English as 11 a foreign 16 language 17.
Some have short courses 9 (a few weeks or months), and some have one- or two-year courses.
University classes start in September and go on until 18 mid-June with twobreaks, one at Christmas, and one at Easter 19. Most degrees 20 take three years,but some take four.
