David: How long ago did you visit the White House and perform there? And tell us everything about that, tell us how you were invited……Jerry: You really wanna hear about it?
David: Yeah.
Jerry: They had this thing for Paul McCartney, they're gonna honor 1 him with the Gershwin Prize. And they wanted me, I don't know why they wanted me there. Because it had all these big people, it had Elvis Costello and Faith Hill and so on. But they wanna me perform in the White House, you know the East Room, Pablo Casals, the J.F.K.
David: They wanna you be there because the President or Paul McCartney probably think "you think we can get Jerry Seinfeld?". That's why you were there.
Jerry: It doesn't make sense to me. But it was really the coolest thing I ever did, because I'm a great admirer of the President and I'm a crazy Beatles' fan. And I just couldn't believe that I was going to perform there. So I wrote this thing and I kind of talked about some the Beatles’ lyrics 2, you know, Paul's singing you know "she was just seventeen, do you know what I mean?", I was saying I'm not sure I do know what you mean, Paul. But I think there are some law enforcement 3 people that might like to ask you a couple of questions about what you mean. So the end of the night, Paul's singing is unbelievable and he does this encore, and then they wanna all the performers to go out and sing Hey Judy with him. David: Oh, my goodness 4.
Jerry: Yeah. I don't wanna be in with the people who are supposed to be there, the music people. I guess they just wanna some comedy to break it up. I don't know. So I said to Paul McCartney, I said why am I here? He said who else are we gonna get?
David: Exactly. That's exactly right.
Jerry: Well, I don't know what that means either. But anyway, so let me kind of get to the back so I'm not, I don't wanna be in the front of this. You know, because I didn't really feel like I really deserve 5 to be there. You know what, you know, so I'm waiting, you go, you go. I said to all of them, you go, you go. So I didn't quite figure it out right and I ended up right in the middle. And Paul McCartney comes out from behind the piano for the Na Na part of Hey Judy, and he stands next to me.
David: There you go. This tells you everything you need to know.
Jerry: So, I, I, I'm in the White House singing Hey Judy with Paul McCartney next to me (oh, my goodness.) On the plane home I was just hoping it would go down.
David: What?
Jerry: Because I'm done, I'm done. That's it. David: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Jerry: You know when you just feel like after tonight show, how are you gonna feel like? That's it. I've done it. David: That’s right.
Jerry: Right?
