China has the world's largest internet user-base. According to the China Internet Network Information Center, by June of this year, China had 632 million online users. That's just under 47 percent of its entire population.
China's mobile internet users number close to 530 million. Last year, online retail 1 sales passed 300 billion dollars. Over 10 percent of Chinese internet users use online banking 2. Given these numbers, cyber security became part of the country's national security strategy in February this year. So far, over 40 countries have announced similar measures to ward 3 against cyber threats.
