Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, once every year Jack 1 Benny decides to 1)tempt 2 fate by going out to San Anita for the races. Yesterday was that day, so let’s go back and pick up Jack and Rochester in the car.
Jack: Gee 3, Rochester, I can’t wait to get to the racetrack.
Rochester: Me too, boss.
Jack: It’s a good idea starting early—we miss all the heavy traffic.
Rochester: Uh-huh.
Jack: You know, Rochester, it’s such a beautiful day, let’s put the top down.
Rochester: The top is down.
Jack: Then why is it so dark?
Rochester: We ain’t out the garage yet!
Jack: Oh-oh-oh, well, let’s hurry.
Jack: Don’t, don’t drive too fast, Rochester.
Rochester: I won’t, boss.
Jack: Ya da dee da dum da de da dum de dum dum. Hey Rochester, there’s a house that looks just like mine!
Rochester: It is yours, we ain’t out of the driveway yet!
Jack: Oh yes-yes, well let’s get going.
Jack: Ah this is the life: top down, beautiful day, 2)barmy weather sunshine, it sure is well.
Rochester: It sure is!
Jack: You know, Rochester, sunshine is the, oh, oh, I think it’s gonna rain.
Rochester: I don’t think so, boss!
Jack: Then why did it get so dark?
Rochester: The car slipped into 3)reverse, we’re back in the garage again!
Jack: Oh for heaven’s sake, Rochester, we’ll never get to San Anita! Now come on we’ve gotta pick up Miss Livingstone.
Jack: Rochester, there’s Miss Livingstone’s house, you’d better start putting on the break.
Rochester: Breaks wore out last week!
Jack: No breaks, then how do you stop the car?
Rochester: You know that chain I’ve got up here with the hook on the end of it?
Jack: Yes.
Rochester: Well I drop it through the floorboard and 4)pray for an open 5)manhole.
Jack: Well now that’s the silliest thing I’ve ever heard...
Rochester: Congratulate me, boss, I hooked one.
Jack: Good, good. Hmmm Miss Livingstone said she’d be waiting out in the front for me. Rochester honk 4 the horn.
Rochester: Yes sir.
Jack: With that, with that, with that horn she must know it’s me.
Rochester: Either you or the 6)hit parade.
Jack: Gee what’s keeping her? I’ll go up to the door. Gee I haven’t seen Mary since she went to 7)Palm Springs last week. Ah, hello Mary.
Mary: Hello, Jack, sorry I kept you waiting.
Jack: Oh, that’s all right, but Mary, it’s such a beautiful day, why are you wearing that heavy fur coat?
Mary: Oh, 8)darn it I thought I was still in Palm Springs.
Jack: Oh, was it cold in Palm Springs?
Mary: Only the nights.
Jack: How were the days?
Mary: Rainy.
Jack: Oh, no, really?
Mary: Nah, just kidding Jack. We had wonderful weather and you know I stayed at the 9)racket club.
Jack: Oh yes, yes, who all was there, Mary?
Mary: Well there was 10)Robert Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Walter Pidgeon and Gregory Peck.
Jack: Well, you must have had a lot of fun!
Mary: No, it was dull.
Jack: Dull! With Taylor, Sinatra, Pidgeon and Peck? I can’t understand it. Who else was there?
Mary: Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Sinatra, Mrs. Pidgeon and Mrs. Peck.
Jack: Oh, oh well I can understand it, kid. Well come on, Mary, we’ll be late for the races.
Mary: Hello, Rochester.
Rochester: Hello, Miss Livingstone!
Jack: Let’s get going. Start the car, Rochester.
Rochester: Yes, sir!
